Chief Herrmann began his career with the Fire District in May of 1989 as a volunteer firefighter. He attended Paramedic Class through Sherman Hospital in 1991 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1993. He was hired as the first full-time firefighter / paramedic in 1995. He served as the District's Public Education Coordinator from 1993 to 2013 beginning many of the programs we still have in place today. Chief also started the District's Fire and Life Safety Inspection Program which allows us to inspect the businesses in Hampshire to ensure they are safe for the employees and customers. He also served as a part-time firefighter / paramedic with the West Dundee Fire Department from 1997 to 2002. Chief Herrmann was promoted to Captain in 2004, overseeing the Fire Prevention Bureau, daily operations, and the Training Division. He was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief in 2012 and then to Fire Chief in January of 2020. He has received numerous company citations in his career for exceptional performance during incidents as well as the George Van de Voorde Award from Advocate Sherman Hospital for saving numerous lives during a bus accident. He was also the recipient of the District's Medal of Valor and the State of Illinois's Medal of Honor for rescuing a victim in a structure fire. Chief Herrmann holds State certifications as a Chief Fire Officer, Fire Inspector 1, Fire Prevention Officer, Fire Service Instructor 2, Incident Safety Officer, and has an Associates Degree from Elgin Community College. Chief is a third generation firefighter with the organization serving after his grandpa John and his father Jack.
In recognition of these men and women whose dedication, courage, and selfless sacrifices have earned them a special place in the archives of our organization and a place on our Hampshire Fire Protection District "Honor Roll" Plaque displayed in the vestibule at our station. In order to earn the title of Honorary Member, the member must have served for 15 years or more, served as Fire Chief of the organization, perished in the line of duty, or served as a founding member of the organization.
These men were the founding members and the first firefighters of the Fire District.

The Firefighter's Auxiliary was formed by spouses' and the family members of our firefighters. Their goal is to provide assistance to our department whether it be in the form of fundraisers, incident support, or simply providing an event or holiday party for our personnel and their families to gather and have fun outside of the Department.
Currently leading the Auxiliary are President Katie Marlowe and Secretary Rachael Larson. Supporting members include, Cynthia Toretto, Deidre Morgan, Dianne Herrmann, Amy Siegmann, and Linda Gustafson.
